MSI’s commitment to a safer 2025

As the festive season approaches, the MSI and CREASS are working to enhance safety in the community with bold new initiatives for the 2025 year.

Danny Nunes of the Melville Security Initiative (MSI), and CREASS Community Services recently shared an overview of their achievements in 2024 and outlined their ambitions for the upcoming year.

Their focus has been on enhancing safety and community engagement in the Melville area. One of the significant highlights of the past year has been the ongoing traction with the Safe Street Project. MSI and CREASS are eagerly awaiting feedback from the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) regarding new amendments to the initial traffic study, which the JRA requested.

The collaboration aims to ensure that traffic management in the community effectively contributes to safety improvements. As the Melville community looks ahead, Nunes expressed a hopeful outlook for 2025. “We hope to see a decrease in crime in our area,” he stated, emphasising the importance of community safety. To this end, MSI and CREASS plan to launch two new initiatives next year.

The first is an expansion of the Safe Street Project, which aims to enhance pedestrian safety and overall community well-being. The second initiative will focus on implementing a CCTV surveillance project specifically for 7th Street, designed to deter crime and aid in the prosecution of criminal activities.
