Aidan rises to dancing glory
Representing South Africa at the 2025 American Dance Awards, Aidan Barnard shares his journey in dancing and how it has shaped him since childhood.
It was the polished moves of contemporary dancer Aidan Barnard that saw him selected to represent South Africa.
Aidan will dance for his country in the prestigious 2025 American Dance Awards from July 2-8 after having taken part in last year’s competition.

His journey began at the age of 11, sparked by a fascination with dance shows on television. “I was inspired by what I saw and started taking classes soon after.” His passion later deepened during the Covid-19 pandemic when he and his younger sister’s dance coach had classes in their garage, allowing Adian to immerse himself in the art form even when traditional venues were closed.
