Fire engulfs Eeufees Oord Old Age home

A swift response from SCP Security and CoJ Emergency Services contained the blaze, though two homes were completely destroyed.

On July 12, SCP Security Control Room received an alert via WhatsApp community groups regarding a fire at the Eeufees Oord Old Age Home in Sophiatown at 15:03.

The SCP Private Fire Search & Rescue Team, in collaboration with CoJ Emergency Services (EMS), responded promptly to the scene.

Upon arrival, responders found the structure fully engulfed in flames. The fire was successfully contained and extinguished, although the entire roof of the building was destroyed. Fortunately, nearby properties sustained no damage.

Clive Maher, Director of SCP Security, provided further details about the incident. “The fire was affected two homes that were completely destroyed. Thankfully, there were no fatalities,” he stated.

Maher praised the efforts of the emergency services, saying, “CoJ Emergency Services was phenomenal. They arrived with a truck and a tanker and tackled the fire head-on. Our team assisted them, and they were very appreciative of the support.”

The cause of the fire has been attributed to a gas bottle explosion. The fire was brought under control within an hour, but Maher expressed sadness over the loss of homes for the affected tenants. “It’s a very successful outcome in terms of preventing further damage, but it’s heartbreaking that someone lost their home,” he added.
