Intoxicated driver causes head-on collision on Weltevreden Road

Despite the severity of the crash, which nearly flipped a vehicle, no injuries were reported as authorities arrested the driver of the silver Chery Tiggo for driving under the influence.

At around 19:00 on July 28, SCP Private Fire Search and Rescue got multiple calls for an urgent accident involving two vehicles on Weltevreden Road in Northcliff.

Manager at SCP Security, Jaun van der Westhuizen, said that on arrival, they found that the driver of the silver Chery Tiggo was allegedly intoxicated and had been driving on the wrong side of the road when he collided head-on with a white Haval, causing it to almost flip on its roof.

“Help24 ambulance crew assessed all patients involved, and luckily, no injuries were sustained. JMPD was contacted by our control room and arrived on the scene shortly after. Fairland CPF was also on scene to help where possible.”

Van der Westhuizen reported that the driver of the Tiggo was breathalysed and arrested on the scene.
