Fallen trees spark dozens of community alerts across Fairlands and surrounding suburbs
A spike in fallen trees has kept Beagle Watch patrol teams busy, triggering safety concerns.
Beagle Watch has faced an unusually high number of callouts over the past three days, with residents reporting about 25 fallen-tree incidents across its service area.
Patrol teams managed to attend to 18 of them, working through Fairlands, Linden, Westcliff, Wilgeheuwel, Greenside, and Little Falls, as collapsing trees blocked roads and slowed down neighbourhood traffic.

Managing director André Aiton said the rise in incidents kept teams moving from one suburb to the next. “Our role is to get the roads safe as quickly as we can. We cut and trim the fallen branches, move them to the side of the road, and then report the case to [Johannesburg Parks and Zoo], so the debris can be collected.”
Aiton urged motorists to remain calm when coming across a fallen tree. “Most of these alerts come through community WhatsApp groups, and we respond where possible. The safest thing drivers can do is be patient and give responders the space to clear the branches before trying to pass.”
