Green Group comes together to keep Albertville Park looking awesome

Members of the Albertville Green Group got dirty for their community over the weekend, cleaning up Albertville Park of litter and overgrown areas.

Albertville Park has long been a cherished green space for local families, joggers, and children, but it has also become a quiet battleground against neglect.

For the last six months, the park has relied on a once-a-month community clean-up to help keep the area safe and welcoming. The same tradition was carried out today, and what it lacked in numbers, it made up for in determination.

A few members of the volunteer initiative, Green Group, made up of locals, spent their time clearing litter, tackling overgrown areas, and reaffirming their commitment to protecting this vital community space.

“Green spaces are valuable spaces in the city and contribute to our sanity, health, and wellbeing.”

This was the last clean-up of the year for the group, and fellow volunteer Berni Gaffney said taking part in these clean-ups is her way to give back to her community. “I live near the park, and every morning I get to wake up and look at the greenbelt and feel energised.”

She noted how not enough people know what is happening in their community, and that this is a challenge the group hopes to overcome in the year, galvanising the community to be more active members in their community.
