André Aiton and Dawie Burgers write to City Parks:
Dear Mr Alton Rankin and team,
Over the past year we as residents of Donga Avenue and Bunkara Street have been in communication with your office regarding the deterioration of Berario Park.
There have been some setbacks and frustrations, but your personal interest in this matter was made evident in eventual meetings with us on various occasions in person and on site to understand the scope of the problems. This showed us that you were also feeling the frustrations of the delays in going from promise to product.
In the end you and your team came through with flying colours and we are grateful for it.
Our children and neighbours can now enjoy a park with freshly painted, repaired and maintained equipment and mowed lawns.
Be assured that we will take good care of the park and its equipment for years to come.
In addition, your team has gone further to prevent motor vehicles from entering the park, playing loud music and littering by erecting a neat colonial fence around the perimeter. This also adds a sense of security when letting our kids run around freely in the park not being afraid of speeding cars or motorcycles crossing their path.
We have also recently discovered signs that vagrants were sleeping in the abandoned switchgear room on the western corner of the park. After investigating the situation with Beaglewatch, Mr Aiton and I have welded the breach shut and will be monitoring the situation during our morning walks. We will be exploring the re-purposing of this building, failing which its demolition will be considered.
We would like to thank you for your patience with our repeated requests and your perseverance in getting things done. Please also extend our gratitude to your capable team and we wish you all a safe and happy festive season.
On behalf of the residents who make use of the new and improved Berario Park.
