Dumpers be warned

SOPHIATOWN – Residents says rubbish dumpers must be named and shamed.

Sophiatown resident Nick Rautenbach writes:

On 23 August around 4pm, I looked down from my flat and noticed two adult men and a few children with a red bakkie in front of an apartment complex, emptying a wheelie bin in a large bag, similar to those used by recyclers. I noticed that the wheelie bin was clearly marked with an address. At first, I assumed that one of them was a recycling collector and that the others were just giving him some recycle material, thus I ignored them.

Later, when I noticed that the bag was still there, it dawned to me that these people simply dumped their rubbish and left. The next day, actual recycle collectors searched through the bags and largely reduced the volume of the content. Each of them had their eyes on the useful bag but gave up when they discovered that there were heavy bags of sand inside. Some of them had to be stopped when they attempted to empty the content on the spot so they could collect the strong bag.

Later, someone pulled it to the corner of Milner and Millar streets, I believe with the intention to empty the contents on the open stand when no one was looking.

Please name and shame people who dump their rubbish in the street.
