GALLERY: Evening bowls tournament end with awards

NORTHCLIFF – A month of an evening bowls tournament ended with four teams awarded for their bowls performance.

The evening bowls tournament that took place at the Northcliff Country Club, since mid November came to an end with an awards ceremony on 3 December.

The evening tournament was held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings after bowls chairperson, Fanus Viviers received a donation to put up flood lights at the club. They hoped that this unique evening tournament would attract more members to join the club. Club member, Caz Dutton said that the games played by separate teams on Tuesdays and Thursdays were combined to award the relevant teams. “The awards evening ended with a party. We will be hosting another evening tournament in February,” said Dutton.

According to Milton Rip, committee member of the bowls club, the evening and the tournament was a huge success. “We had a bigger turnout then we initially thought. Everybody that attended the awards ceremony had a great time. Music were playing which made for a fabulous atmosphere. Players already said that they will be playing again in February.” said Rip. He further added that the profit made with this tournament will be used to upgrade the other bowls green, because it hasn’t been used in a very long time.
