AMS hosts second annual interschool cross country

DELTA PARK – The races were held over two days with the boys competing on 13 March and the girls on 15 March.

The Auckland Park Academy of Excellence (Apax) in association with the Associated Muslim Schools hosted the second annual interschool cross-country event at Delta Park.

The Florida Islamic School, Johannesburg Muslim School, Lenasia Muslim School, Nizamiye School in Mayfair, and the Houghton Muslim Academy participated alongside Apax.

The races were held over two days with the boys competing on 13 March and the girls on 15 March.

Fazela Amod, Apax’s senior administrator, said there were three divisions, the U11, U13 and U15 teams. These teams ran 1km, 3km and 5km across one of Joburg’s biggest parks respectively.

Apax boys took home the U11 and U13 trophies with Nizamiye School winning the U15 race.

As for the girls, Apax again took the U11 and U13 titles and the Johannesburg Muslim School won the U15 division.

 

“There was great excitement and enthusiasm shown by all runners resulting in competitive racing over the tough terrain at Delta Park,” said Amod.

Some teachers ran alongside the schoolchildren to the finishing line.
