Wits register second win, UJ draw at home
BRAAMFONTEIN – Better late than never for Wits.
Wits University kept their fans on tenterhooks and waited until the very end to win their first home game of the season.
Every Thursday night, eight universities lace up their boots to fight it out for the Varsity Football title, and 2 August was no different.
This round of fixtures saw Wits University take on the University of the Western Cape (UWC) – and win the match 1–0 in the final moments.
This was a historic win for the home team as this was the first time they managed to beat UWC. Waylan Rooi’s strike in added time gave Wits the lead and ultimately the bragging rights.
Here's Waylan Rooi's extra time winner for @Witsfc. Great pass to set him up and he makes no mistake by squeezing it past the UWC keeper.

Across the city, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) had to share the spoils as their opponents, the University of Pretoria, fought back for a 1–1 draw.
UJ’s Mokete Mogaila took the lead for his team in the 81st minute but the boys from Pretoria answered back just before the final whistle.
Mogaila was named Man of the Match but the score resulted in UJ falling from first on the log to third, while Wits’s victory placed them second.
Just moments after that unbelievable @UJ_Sport goal in the 80th min, @TuksSport equalised from a corner when Richard Moremi went for a bicycle kick and Chinedu Okolo pounced with a header from close range. #iyachesa! pic.twitter.com/6yvJ2z3Es6
