GREENSIDE – The runners travelled to KwaZulu-Natal to take part in the event which is said to have been an unforgettable experience.

Pirates Running Club runners brought home some big wins from the recently held, Karkloff Trail Series held from September 23 to September 24.

Natalie Mills, Pirates road running club chairperson, said it was an incredible and unforgettable event where Pirates runners, supporters, volunteers and pacers came together and showed what special club is all about.

“The Pirates development squad of runners, who is supported through fundraising events, truly showed their talent, with Phillip Phakwago, taking the 1st spot in the 50 miler. Also, five of the top 20 runners belong to the Pirates team and Emmanuel Makhafola successfully finishing his first 100 miler in just over 27 hours,” she shared.

Mills explained the club’s aid station was manned by members who tirelessly checked-in and assisted runners throughout the night and gave them that extra surge of energy to get over the line.

According to Mills, one of their members, who watched from afar, said “It was remarkable to watch the love and care. This is why it is an honour to be a part of the Pirates family and to witness the special DNA that just exudes in and through everyone.”
