Chris Mhlanga is a force to be reckoned with on the track
Chris Mhlanga said he never imagined himself running, but his teachers showed him his athletic potential.
Chris Mhlanga has been competing and winning almost all of his races with the great ambition of becoming the best athlete in the world.
Mhlanga is a 21-year-old student at the University of Johannesburg, studying transport and logistics management. He is a UJ athlete and he started running when he was in matric, in 2012.
According to Chris, his teachers pushed him to pursue running this because they saw his talent.
“It wasn’t easy at all because at first, I used to be a soccer player, and I was so in love with it. I was only running in school competitions until one of the teachers from school encouraged me to join an athletic club. I did, and I never looked back,” said Mhlanga.
“The most difficult and painful race was the (Athletics South Africa) ASA cross country trials in Potchefstroom in December last year, where I came in position seven, and only the first six were chosen to represent the country on the world stage,” he added.
This talented athlete has been competing in races like University Sports South Africa (USSA) and Athletics South Africa (ASA). His hard work and dedication have paid off, as he has consistently placed in the top ranks of these competitions. His natural talent and dedicated training have made him a force to be reckoned with on the track.
He recently completed the ASA 5KM Road Championships and placed third.
Mhlanga said that his determination and passion for the sport serve as an inspiration to others, encouraging them to pursue their own dreams with the same level of commitment and drive.
