Kalon is new double dance champion

NORTHCLIFF – Talented dancer, Kalon Badenhorst (17) recently broke boundaries by winning the World Freestyle and Slow Dance championships.

Local resident Kalon Badenhorst recently won the World Freestyle and Slow Dance championships on 28 June in Blackpool, England.

The 17-year-old Randburg-based dancer has been part of the Daniel Swanepoel Dance Studio in Northcliff for five years.

According to owner of the studio Daniel Swanepoel, it has been a long time coming.

“It is a great achievement – it has been many years since a South African last won in the top section – even better, he won both the Freestyle World Champs and the Slow Dance World championships,” said Swanepoel.

“It’s never easy coming from South Africa as we don’t get to compete against the world’s best often,” he confessed, adding that dancers in the country also struggle to get sponsorships.

Kalon is still in England for his workshops and could not be reached for comment.
