Come I Tell You to go to PTA

MELVILLE – Let him tell you again, but this time in the capital.

This local comedian is ready to take his show to the nation’s capital city.

After two sold-out shows at the Melville Comedy Club, comedian Shanray van Wyk will be taking his debut one-man show, Come I Tell You, to Pretoria. This comes after the success of the first show where he noticed that many of those in attendance were from Pretoria. “Lots of people at the show were from there and I used to do my comedy there, so it makes sense to take the show there now.”

The Melville resident’s comedy is shaped by his own life experiences, from past jobs to family incidents – Come I Tell You is a reflection on the self participating in day to day activities. “It’s a story of a small-town boy coming to the big city in pursuit of success. There are stories there that many who went through the same thing will relate to. It’s a story of how life blows us around from one place to the next.”

Van Wyk has already hit a variety of comedy stages in South Africa. As manager of the Melville Comedy Club, he often features at shows there. He has also been on stages in Pretoria, Fourways, Braamfontein and other parts of the country. Last year, he finished second at the Komikazi showcase hosted at Parker’s comedy club at Monte Casino and participated in the Savannah Newcomers Showcase.

One of the tales you can look forward to is his experience working at one of the fastest-growing banks in the country. “While working there, I saw and realised many things. How banks indebt their clients, the secrets of the banking world and the pressure to sell products and services to people who can’t afford them.”

This, along with other work experiences, pushed Van Wyk towards comedy as it became a space to share his stories and enlighten others.
