Life after marriage
The most famous and our personal favourite of the Goliath brothers has got to be the larger than life Jason Goliath.
Having blessed the comedy stage for many years and a new one-man show coming up, Goliath is now on our radio waves too! Joining Kaya FM on the first day of spring, he describes it as something exhilarating. “In the back of my mind I always kind of dreamt about it and it happened out of the blue.
“I put that dream to … I believe that if people see it in me and it is meant for me then it will come and then I got a call from the station manager on a Sunday afternoon. “He told me that he had this idea to bring a little bit of lifestyle into his current-affairs-led breakfast show and it was to diversify the team.
We are like the perfect radio family, everyone has their strengths. I’m there to just be myself and I love it. I love the ethos around the Afropolitan and what that means.” Like a fish to water Goliath has a new type of fan base. It seems that great opportunities come after marriage and that’s exactly what his latest one-man show is about.
Manstruation: Surviving a Wife is a show for all the couples with the unique humour he goes through a process of evolution of life after marriage. “The original narrative was just going to be an exploration of my experience so far – the differences between a girlfriend, fiancé and wife.” He added that it is not the traditional stand-up show.
“I believe that I as a man have the responsibility to adhere to certain things. It’s a not a traditional stand-up show because the entire show is messagedriven and what I’m looking for is for every man and woman to have some insight into their current relationship.” He said while being married he has been exposed to a whole lot of things, “The name of the show specifically comes from the fact that when I came back from honeymoon my wife told me to download this app called ‘Clue’ which is a menstrual-cycle tracker.
I said ‘Well am I gonna menstruate now as well?’ and that’s where ‘Manstruation’ was born from. “What it has done for me is give me a very unique insight into the day-to-day struggles of a woman internally.” Essentially the show is a celebration of relationships, a celebration of love. “It’s a celebration to explain the fact that as adults we are logical and we agree that marriage and love may not be logical but when you get it right you can agree that it’s all worth it.” Aww!
He mentioned that sometimes clichés are actually important and goes by the oldest one in the book– ‘Happy wife, happy life.’ We can look forward to seeing Goliath on a new show on E! entertainment in October and see him as a very different character on a BET sitcom launching early next year. The show runs from 2 to 12 October at Auto & General Theatre on The Square in Sandton. Tickets are R150 and are available from Computicket.
