Wheelers cycle for rhino’s

Newcastle Wheelers cycled over 400km to raise funds in the fight against rhino poaching.

The Newcastle Lions teamed up with the Waterside Newcastle Wheelers to launch an awareness campaign against rhino poaching, and to raise funds for the cause.

Cyclists from the club participated in a mass cycling event and left Newcastle on Friday at 5am. They cycled from Newcastle to Pietermaritzburg where they competed in the Amashova Cycle Race to Durban on Sunday.

Newcastle Lions Club challenged other Lions Clubs, service organisations, businesses and the communities of KwaZulu-Natal to assist in making a difference towards this worthy cause, organised in conjunction with the ‘Hoot your Horns for Rhinos’ initiative spearheaded by East Coast Radio (ECR) in Durban.

To support the cause, pledge your donations via the Lawrence Anthony Earth Organisation.

Pledges and donations will be broadcast on the air on ECR. The campaign will also be promoted on Facebook.

For direct donations, money can be paid into the following account:

Email your name and ECR Ref: Lions Newcastle to rhinowatch@ecr.co.za
