Siphiwe Nyembe is a paradigm of what approaching one’s job with keen interest and a sense of purpose can achieve.
Commitment and enthusiasm towards one’s job, no matter how menial or wearisome the work may seem, can lead to innovative ideas that impress and inspire.
Cyril Tarboton commends his gardener, Siphiwe Nyembe, for surpassing his expectations in maintaining a well-kept garden, to fashioning a garden wall out of two litre milk bottles, filled with sand.
The wall was built to prevent the rain from washing away the topsoil in the vegetable garden.
“Using this very cheap building material (the milk bottles), and the necessary cement and sand, we built a very satisfactory containing wall, which my grandchildren happily walk along if they want to practise balancing,” said Mr Tarboton.
He further praised Mr Nyembe for fetching kraal manure from a nearby farmer to enrich the soil.
“He looks after my garden like a mother hen looks after her chicks and, as you can see from the photograph, our garden is flourishing. We have a crop of onions drying in the afdak, spinach, beans and potatoes are thriving, and we are expecting to reap a satisfying crop of mealies soon,” Mr Tarboton concluded.
