Two murders again rocked Sibongile over the weekend, and both appear to be pointless and heartless.
Bonga Mbatha (30) was stabbed in the heart following a quarrel over a match at Mata Tavern in the early hours of Saturday morning.
He was taken to hospital by the tavern owner but died en route. Later, people at the tavern, upon hearing that Bonga had died, started looking for the culprit, a 17-year-old who cannot be named.
A group of men found the teen and took him to near the Sibongile cemetery, where he was assaulted.
A police patrol spotted two men carrying the bleeding teenager, who could not walk.
Warrant Officer MM Manyathela stopped and asked what was going on. The men replied that they wanted to ‘finish him off’ as he had killed Bonga.
Under the pretext of assisting the men, Warrant Officer Manyathela persuaded them to get into the patrol van with their bleeding victim. He then drove to the police station. Upon his arrival one of the men jumped from the van and fled.
The other man was arrested. However the 17-year-old had died. A man appeared in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the murder.
