FAKE LETTER – Water to be turned off today

Perhaps the biggest giveaway that the letter was a fake was the date of the second cut-off: Tuesday, April 1, from 07h00 till 00h00

A letter doing the rounds claiming that water will be cut in Ladysmith is a fake, says uThukela water services deputy manager Glen Singh.

Social media were broadcasting alert messages since last night regarding the water cut.

The letter claimed the following:

uThukela are turning off the water supply to half the town today as part of routine maintenance to the Ezakheni Bulk Water Plant.

The entire Ezakheni, Pieters Industrial Area and the former Indian area will be affected. This is according to a letter sent out by uThukela District Municipality on March 20.

It added that “Water will be turned off from 7am this morning to 4pm in the afternoon.”

Perhaps the biggest giveaway that the letter was a fake was the date of the second cut-off: Tuesday, April 1, from 07h00 till 00h00.
