If you’ve been wondering why the road rehabilitation of Connor and Albert streets has stopped, so have we.
There is no sign of the heavy equipment or contractors working on the road.
A resident who was caught “in the middle” of the traffic congestion in Connor Street recently described the road works as “absolutely ridiculous”.
“There is NO one directing traffic or helping at the four-way stop. The robot is not working and the Stop sign in the middle of the road obviously does not seem to help. This whole road construction or “maintenance” is an absolute joke!” she commented.
The Estcourt News requested a progress report from Umtshezi Municipality.
Ms Njoko said that the project is awaiting the approval from Uthukela District Municipality for the relocation of the existing water pipes.
Another businessman in Connor Street reported that his business was being affected due to the large amounts of dust emanating from the gravel road.
He suggested that the road be sprayed with water to decrease the dust levels and added that he called the municipality to report this.
Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko said that she had contacted the contractor last week and he assured her that the road is being “watered” three times a day.
