Klein Peet loses the battle against cancer
10-year-old Peet Barnard died on Saturday afternoon after a long battle against cancer
Peet Barnard died on Saturday afternoon (at about 3.45pm) after a long battle against cancer.
The brave 10-year-old was diagnosed with cancer early last year. Initially detected in his liver, kidneys and pancreas, the disease later spread to his brain, rendering him completely blind and bed-ridden.
Klein Peet, as he is affectionately known to those dearest to him, recently had a good spell, where he was feeling better and was full of smiles and chatter. However, he was rushed to Grey’s Hospital on April 2 and was admitted in a critical condition.
He was sent home, as there was nothing that the doctors could do for him. He sadly died this afternoon. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, and the community at large who rallied to his support wherever they could.
He will always have a special place in the hearts and minds of everyone in Ladysmith. Rest in peace, Klein Peet…
