Vryheid Soccer Academy – Separating the men from the boys
All four teams at the soccer tournament held in Mondlo on Saturday, April 5, were hungry for the victory.
A CHILLY Saturday at Mondlo separated the men from the boys on April 5.
The weather was cold and one could see how envious all the teams were and how hungry the boys were to snap up the championship.
All four teams were ready at 11:30am.
The draw took place and the results were as follows: Vryheid Soccer Academy vs Amajita FC and Intermillan FC vs Umdindindindi United.
The tournament kicked off at 12:00 due to some unexpected delays.
The first game of the tournament was Vryheid Soccer Academy vs Amajita.
The game was tough and our local boys learned a thing or two. We saw a beautiful goal within the first five minutes of the game and Amajita was leading 1-0.
The game went on and most of the first half saw our boys struggling as they were held on their own half of the pitch most of the time as the pressure was piling up and there was not even a single attempt to the goal posts of the opposition at half time.
The game went to half time with the score being 1-0.
The second half was better as our boys tried to hold Amajita FC 50/50. In the 85th minute Amajita FC scored the second goal which broke the morale of our boys.
The full time score was Amajita 2; Vryheid Soccer Academy 0. Amajita proceeded to the finals
The second game kicked off at 1:30pm, where Intermillan FC faced Umdindindindi United.
This was one of the toughest games of the tournament as both teams wanted to proceed to the finals to face Amajita FC.
The game seesawed for the first half, with few attempts at the goal posts by both teams, but proved to be fruitless.
At halftime the scores were level at Intermillan FC 0 – 0 Umdindindindi United.
As the boys came back from the break one could see both teams were hungry for the goals, but after 90 minutes, still no score.
The fate of both teams was decided by the penalties and the final score was Intermillan FC 5 – 3 Umdindindindi United.
The host, Intermillan FC won and proceeded to the finals to face Amajita FC.
The final between Amajita FC (Mondlo) vs Intermillan FC (Mondlo) was a derby between the two local teams, where the men were definitely separated from the boys.
Kick off started at 4:00pm and what seemed to be a Battle-of-the-Titans started.
The game started well with few missed chances. Both teams held each other 50/50 till the end of the first half with 0-0 score.
The second half was the actual war where rough play and rough tackles were being witnessed as the pressure of the battle for the championship rose.
Without any injuries and no goals, the final score was 0-0 at 90 minutes.
The fate of the game was decided by penalties.
The boys showed their skills and Amajita FC shone as the tournament champions with the final score being Amajita FC 5 – 4 Intermillan FC.
