Dovetree development drags on
The modern-looking homes that line the street are in various stages of development but the area it is situated in isn’t
For many years those living in Dovetree Avenue have had to endure limited services.
A dusty gravel road and overgrown verges greets one when turning into the housing development.
The modern-looking homes that line the street are in various stages of development but the area it is situated in isn’t.
Frustrated with liasing with authorities and not receiving any solid response, one resident approached the Estcourt News.
“We have been complaining for eight years about the untarred road and long grass but nothing gets done. Sometimes they grade the road to buff us. If we want to sell our houses, we won’t get a good prices,” said one resident who did not want to be named.
These concerns were relayed to Umtshezi Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko who said that while most bulk services have been installed in Dovetree Avenue, the road infrastructure was still outstanding.
“The Dovetree Development Project is a private housing project. The road infrastructure process is currently in operation and will be complete over the next few months,” commented Ms Njoko.
She added that once the roads have been handed over to the municipality, maintenance would then become the municipality’s responsibility.
Ms Njoko apologises to residents for the inconvenience caused.
