DUE TO provincial commitments, it was decided that the senior hockey and rugby team matches against Monument Primary would take place on Monday, June 2, rather than Saturday, May 31, as previously planned.
Our hockey team, who are unbeaten this season, are playing brilliantly, even in the face of some stiff competition. The second team drew, 0-0 and the first team drew 2-2.
Although the rugby teams were expecting some tough competition, they managed to take victory relatively easily, with the second team winning convincingly, 32-0 and the first team taking victory, 22-7. There were several missed chances to score, especially in the first team’s match, so the score could have been even higher.
The Winter sports season ended on a negative note. The senior teams were looking forward to our final matches against neighbouring school, NRS, but were met with disappointment when the match, scheduled for Saturday, June 7, was cancelled.
The situation, however, led to a wonderful event to end the season. On Thursday, June 5, pupils made their way to the sports field where they played hockey, rugby and netball against each other. The highlight of the day was certainly the matches played against the first teams by staff and parents. The fun filled event ended in an opportunity for parents and staff to socialise afterwards.
On Friday, June 6, a number of chess players participated in a chess tournament at Huttenpark Primary.
Well done to the following pupils, who achieved outstanding results:
- Marnus de Wit, a grade R pupil, took fourth place in the junior division.
- Petrie De Wit took first place in the B division.
- Jano Strydom took fourth place in the B division.
- Stephan De Wit took first place in the senior division.
Well done to our chess players!
Many thanks to Mrs Tienie Meyer and Mrs Surita De Wit for their support and assistance with the transport.
Don’t forget, exams begin on June 17.
