Smartcards roll out in Ladysmith

Home Affairs has launched a new smartcard and the community is invited to apply for it

Mayor Vincent Madlala received his smartcard this morning from Home Affairs. Last year July, the Department of Home Affairs launched the implementation of a new smartcard and the community is invited to apply for it.

Ladysmith Home Affairs office manager Mr Henry Kubheka says they would like to focus on people who are 60 years and above. There is no application fee for this age group. For those who are 16 and above and who are applying for the first time, it will also be free. For the rest of the community who have identity documents, the fee will be R140.

Mr Kubheka also told the Ladysmith Gazette that they are inviting all political leaders and local councillors to come and apply for their smartcards.
