Local company donates marquee to IEC
The marquee will be used for the Spring Festival & Food Fair on Saturday, September 6, as well as for sporting activities

Local company and winner of the Platinum Award at the 2014 Tourism Indaba, Canvas & Tent, demonstrated their corporate social responsibility when they donated a 250-seater marquee to the Islamic Educational Centre (IEC) recently.
It was through the tireless efforts of Shamimah Asmal, a parent at the school and financial director at the company, that this all came to pass. Human resources manager Louise Coetzee was extremely chuffed at visiting the school and expressed her admiration at the various initiatives that has given the school a competitive advantage.
The principal thanked Canvas & Tent and especially Shamimah Asmal for their magnanimous donation to the school.
He said he wishes there were other parents who would lobby for similar donations to the school.
He emphasised that, as a community school, they are proud of their Islamic ethos and the partnership with the company would yield further benefits to the pupils. Mahomed Darsot, on behalf of the Shura Council, was equally appreciative of the donation and agreed that the students should be given an opportunity at experiential training at the company.
An excursion will be planned to visit the factory plant in Pieters and details of the partnership will be worked out as soon as possible.
The canvas marquee will be used for the Spring Festival & Food Fair on Saturday, September 6, as well as for sporting activities. The marquee normally sells for R38,000 and this donation will be part of the asset inventory of the school.
