Railway line thieves behind bars

It is alleged that the pieces of railway line were removed in the Colenso area

Ladysmith police made two arrests this morning (Thursday) after finding two men in possession of stolen pieces of railway line.

This after receiving a report that two individuals were trying to sell metal at a local scrap metal dealership. On arrival at the dealership, police officers found that the two people in question had 11 pieces of railway line on the back of a Toyota bakkie.

Transnet officials were contacted and they were able to identify the metal as belonging to Transet. It is alleged that the pieces of railway line were removed in the Colenso area. The two men were arrested and their vehicle has been impounded. They face charges of being in possession of suspected stolen property.

The metal is valued at about R10,000. Investigations are continuing.
