Steadville roads still closed due to protest
The protest is peaceful at this stage, but with a tense atmosphere

The protest in Steadville is continuing this morning. The protest is against an increase in taxi fare by 10%. The fare was R5.90 and taxi owners are now asking R6.50.
The roads in Steadville have been closed off with large rocks. Police have been deployed to the area and plan to keep Helpmekaar Road open throughout the strike.
The protest is peaceful at this stage, but with a tense atmosphere.
The various parties involved held a meeting yesterday, but no conclusion was reached.
To add to the chaos, workers from nearby factories are also on strike.
