Expect traffic delays at Helpmekaar intersection

Public Safety officers are at the robots and are directing traffic

There are major traffic delays at the intersection of Newcastle and Helpmekaar Road.

Reports have come in saying that motorists can expect to wait as long as 45 minutes to pass through the intersection. Traffic is backed up as far as the old drive-in along Shepstone Road, to the Danskraal turn-off in Helpmekaar Road, Tata to the south of Newcastle Road, and Riddle Road on the north side of the Newcastle road (N11).

Public Safety officers are at the robots and are directing traffic.

It is believed that the traffic delays are due to the taxi strike in Steadville. The Steadville community are protesting against a 10% increase in taxi tariffs, and have blocked the roads in and out of Steadville with large rocks.
