Taxi strike over

Taxis are expected to be running by tomorrow

The taxi tariff strike has come to an end. Two meetings were held over the weekend between protesters and taxi owners to find a solution to the situation. The second meeting, on Sunday (yesterday), saw taxi owners agreeing to lower the taxi tariff from R6.50 to R6.20.

This has appeased residents and the protest action is over, at least for the time being. The protest saw Steadville residents blocking roads into the township in the early hours of Tuesday morning last week. This continued all week until Friday.

Taxis are expected to be running by tomorrow (Tuesday).
