Improving the taxi industry’s image

Executive members from Umzinyathi had a lot to take home after the workshop

The much-maligned taxi industry is working on improving the business skills of members and assisting with the development of the industry.
Fourteen members of the executive committee of the Umzinyathi taxi industry from Dundee, Nquthu and Pomeroy recently completed a 17 week course. The course was initiated and paid for by the Department of Transport.
Modules covered included road transport services, basic business principles, customer relations, self-development and communication.
Lecturer, Mr Mahlangu of Iyanda Holdings (Pty) Ltd, explained that the course did not only focus on the taxi industry but covered the entire transport industry. He urged members to broaden their vision by focusing on all aspects of the transport industry, and by getting involved to ensure that the industry flourishes.
Members who attended the course said they were ‘really happy to gain new skills’.
“We have gained a lot of knowledge, and are excited and much clearer as to what we are doing and what we are expected to do for our passengers,” one member told the Courier.
