There is never a dull moment at Weenenprimer and the end of the second term proved no exception. Pupils, parents, teachers and community members joined together to make this a very special time for everyone.
On Thursday evening the Weenen Town Hall was packed to overflowing as the children entertained all present at the annual Drama Showcase.
At this event, the children display the many and varied skills they have learnt from the” resident Drama Teacher,” Principal Hazel Stanley, during Drama lessons.
Every child from grade one to seven took part and the attendance of parents, gogos, friends and family was totally overwhelming.
The audience was treated to poetry, singing, ably trained by Tracy Usher-Jones, dance and themes, incorporating storytelling. One of our local residents, Mrs van der Westhuizen taught the Grade six and seven class how to do Volkspele while the girls from this class were taught an Indian dance by Glenita Rugbar.
A past pupil, Aiden Lawrence led the children in a song that had many go cold, it was so moving.
Following closely on the Drama Showcase, Friday from 9am to 10am saw a most encouraging number of parents, guardians, brothers, sisters and friends gather at school for an hour of reading.
The school is totally committed to instilling a culture of the love of reading and parents were invited to come to school for an hour and be read to by their children and then to read to their offspring.
Again, the brainchild of the Principal, this function also proved to be a resounding success as everyone entered into the spirit of the event.
By the end of the hour many books had been shared and young and old had gained from the experience.
There were undoubtedly, many weary eyes and heads by the end of break-up day and all happily meandered off to enjoy the winter holidays, readying themselves for what undoubtedly lies in wait in the third term.
