Crime continues to rise in Glencoe
Recent spate of crimes has residents infuriated.

Three houses in Dahlia Road, Glencoe, have been targeted by thieves in the past week, adding to the increase of crime in the town.
In the first robbery a geyser and garden tools were stolen from a yard in the early morning. Police later recovered the geyser but found that it had been destroyed already. Thieves stripped it for the copper wire inside.
The second robbery also involved garden tools being taken from a yard by a suspect. It is believed the suspect gained entrance to the yard by pretending to be a gardener. There have already been numerous break-ins in Glencoe this year.
Street children are believed to be behind the third theft. Here sweets and chocolates were stolen from a house. This is not the first time that street children have burgled homes in Glencoe. Many thought the problem of child offenders were a thing of the past when the Glencoe Magistrates Court found them guilty of the thefts and sentenced them. Some of the boys are serving five year terms at the Newcastle School of Industries and one at Sinethemba Secure Centre, also in Newcastle.
The recent rise in crimes comes on the back of the recent ATM bombings in town. Residents are still waiting for the ATM’s to be repaired.
