Mandela statue moves out

Mandela kicked out on the eve of his birthday.

The love/ hate relationship between the Mandela Statue and the municipality reached boiling point when Madiba was removed from the premises.
A municipality truck removed the statue from the property via crane and has escorted it to the home of Calvin Simons, one of the sculptors. Mr Simons, though, said they would not accept the statue back and that municipal officials should move it back to the Talana Museum where it originally stood.
He also claimed the statue was vandalised in the process of it being moved from the municipality.
The statue has been a source of debate ever since it was moved from the museum to the municipality. The sculptors then demanded R2,5 million for the artwork.
After failed negotiations for a price to be arranged and constant threats that the statue would be sold to other interested parties, the municipality kicked Madiba out of his home and on the eve of his birthday too.
