Roosboom protesters try to burn down bridge

Angry protesters started to burn the flagstone bridge by setting tyres alight on top and underneath the structure

Protesters burned tyres again this morning, in a week-long strike that has seen Roosboom residents blocking the R103 and preventing motorists from getting to Colenso and Estcourt.

Angry protesters started to burn the flagstone bridge in the area by setting tyres alight on top and underneath the structure. They also attempted to dig up the R103.

Firefighters were dispatched to extinguish the flames before Mayor Vincent Madlala went to speak to the community.

The mayor eventually got to speak to the protesters, but this did little to calm them down. The situation is still tense.
