There were tears, songs, laughter and a huge cake. This was no ordinary day at Uelzen Primary. It was the day the school said farewell to their beloved Ruth Malan – Grade One teacher at Uelzen for the past 21 years.
Mrs Malan is going on retirement after over 40 years in education. The school gave her a surprise assembly where the school paid tribute to a lady who is famed for her strict approach when dealing with her class.
It also a approach full of love and care. Principal, Mr Raffenberg, thanked Mrs Malan for all her dedication and wished her a happy retirement.
Later, the entire school went out into the courtyard where two huge cakes, sponsored by Glencoe Spar, were cut up and enjoyed by the school.
As for Mrs Malan – the tears in her eyes and the laugh on her lips were proof that this was a day she would never forget!
