Service delivery protests rock Pomeroy

Violent erupts in the Pomeroy area.

A week long service delivery protest has reached violent heights with protesters blocking the Dundee/ Pomeroy road with burning tyres and trashing shops. Northern Natal Courier journalist, Siphiwe Ngwenya, is currently at the scene where residents have blocked off the main road. Residents haven been complaining over a lack of lights, water and a lack of houses and have finally had enough. It is understood that a butchery has already been trashed in the mayhem that has ensued. The owner of the butchery claims that residents vandalised his shop and even made off with the meat. Work on the Pomeroy hospital has also come to a standstill as a result of the violence. Police have warned motorists to stay away from the area. Watch the website for more updates
