Arrests made in Pomeroy protests

Businesses were trashed after owners refused to close for the day.

Six people have been arrested following the violent protests that rocked Pomeroy yesterday.
Angry community members blocked the Dundee/ Pomeroy road with burning tyres and rocks. Business owners are living in fear after their businesses were vandalized when they refused to close their shops for the day. Other business owners, who asked not to be named, threatened that they would leave the town if the protests continued.
The community members arrested will appear in court next Tuesday though residents are demanding that police release them. The service delivery strikes turned violent following numerous marches by the community demanding lights, water and housing.
