Angling competition casts off league

Newcastle anglers have once again threaded their lines, and pulled out their trusty camp chairs as the Angling Professional League cast their lines with the start of the new league.

The waters at Richgate Park were abuzz with the activity of baits being set, and lines being cast on August 4, as a small competition set the tone for the league.

Bites and catches were slow due to the cold winter weather, and only a few of the anglers managed to make a catch.

Shane Mungaroo topped the table with his six points, and was followed closely by Kaveer Singh, also with six points, and Ashvir Ramnarain on five points.

Having topped the log, Shane was honoured having worn both the orange and purple caps, and further received an outright trophy for his achievement.

Chairman of APL, Matthew Shunmugan said, “Judging from the closeness of the competition, the season promises to be rather competitive as members tussle for glory and the incentives on offer.”

The organisation offered thanks to the league’s four competing team sponsors, Streetwire, Paper House, The Fishing People and Newcastle Funeral Home.

The first league competition takes place on 19 October at Sandford from zones A to E.
