The recent surge in fires breaking out around Endumeni continued this past weekend when a veld fire broke out around the Correction Services, Glencoe area.
Huge flames destroyed the veld in the area with residents battling to control the blaze.
This is the fourth fire that has broken out in the area in the past month. First a fire broke out at Guy Slater Transport premises.
A heap of tyres was the cause of the toxic black smoke. There was also fears that trailers and trucks parked in the premises would also go up in flames.
A few days later a veld fire broke out in the Cragieburn area. Residents burning rubbish in the area were to blame for the runaway flames. Thankfully no property was damaged in the area.
Sadly the last fire turned tragic, claiming one life. Tyrone Fitzpatrick was killed in a fire that destroyed a house in Mimosa Street, Glencoe. His partner Charmaine was treated on the scene for minor injuries.
Residents are urged to keep the wind in mind before starting a fire.
