Litter, condoms, broken bottles and rusted goal posts decorate the sports grounds adjacent to Dahlia Road in Glencoe, much to the dismay of residents.
The sports grounds, an area meant to be used for recreational sport purposes, is slowly disintegrating.
The grounds are not only strewn with litter, discarded condoms and broken bottles, but the area is also not fenced.
Many residents complain that the premises are used for illegal activities, such as the smoking of dagga and acts of public indecency.
The tall grass surrounding the grounds is believed to be a hideout for criminals. One aggrieved resident, Mr Sohan, has borne the brunt of the fence-less grounds numerous times.
His yard has been invaded and his belongingsĀ stolen, due to perpetrators gaining entrance via the fence-less grounds.
“Numerous complaints have been issued to the municipality, but a response is yet to be received,” said Mr Sohan.
He also added that a petition has been drawn up and handed to the municipality, and he is ‘hopeful for feedback’.
