Sduduzo clears his name
Allegations that a prominent member of the local political scene tried to swindle an elderly lady have been quickly dissolved.
Allegations that a prominent member of the local political scene tried to swindle an elderly lady have been quickly dissolved.
Endumeni Council Speaker, Sduduzo Mdluli, set the record straight after rumours of him surfaced regarding withholding the ID document of 82-year-old Shonisile Nene. It was also alleged that she was ‘promised a house if she voted for the ANC’.
However, Speaker Mdluli said ‘I know the lady very well’, and ‘certainly did not do all the things that I have been accused of’.
“We help all people – whether they have voted or not,” he said. “She came in to register for a house late last year and I saw her battling to find her ID document amid all her papers.”
Speaker Mdluli said he offered to make ten copies of her ID as he feared she could easily lose the original. “I gave her original ID back with the copies – in front of witnesses too.”
He said he knows of her living conditions – Ms Nene lives alone in a shack in Mzomusha. He suspects that she has lost her ID, which is what he was trying to prevent in the first place.“Of course I am willing to assist her in applying for a new one. I will even take her to Home Affairs so she can apply.”
