Police seize dagga at local school
The Newcastle SAPS have also issued a stern warning, and have promised the searches would continue.
Newcastle police Crime Investigation Department (CID) and Dog unit (K9) discovered 19 pokes of dagga at Panorama Combined School, while they were conducting a search on Tuesday.
According to police, they received a tip-off, claiming that drugs were rife in the school, and the operation was conducted in an attempt to eradicate the use of illegal drugs by juveniles.
“Parents are urged to be observant of any unusual behaviour by their children, and to search their bedrooms and bags at home,” said Warrant Officer Simon Luthuli, spokesperson for Newcastle SAPS.
“Parents must also make sure that their children are in good company, and must report any suspicious behaviour to the police, teachers and any other person who might assist the child as early as possible. Teachers must also assist the police by reporting any illegal behaviour by children, and should invite the police to conduct searches. Most crimes are committed when a person has used or is under the influence of illegal drugs,” he concluded.
