Tigers Football Club Coach NS Buthelezi and the management team would like to forward their gratitude to all the local businesses who helped to make the Tigers FC annual awards ceremony last Saturday a success.
A big thank-you to the following businesses: OK Value Supermarket, Tayside Liquors, Iseluleko General Suppliers, Ismail, Chans Transport, RA Burns, Boxer Supermarket and Mr Scelo Ndlovu. It is by the grace of these local businesses that the event became a successful one, as the Tigers boys were honoured and encouraged to kick-start the next season on a high note. The team urges interested individuals who would like to join the management to do so before the next season kicks off.
Mr Buthelezi said the aim of the awards ceremony is to encourage and help the players improve their performances in an individual capacity, and in turn that will benefit the whole team, allowing them to be able to compete with other clubs too.
A few of the players have shown consistency in their performances from last year. Of the seven categories presented, the same people who took trophies last season have again secured their best positions. These were Lindokuhle ‘Do’ Madonsela, Mdumiseni ‘Vananda’ Ndwandwe and Sandile ‘Barter’ Vilakazi. However, there have been changes in the team as new Captain, Sibusiso ‘Mabura’ Buthelezi, took the belt from Sandile ‘Barter’ Vilakazi. Sandile led the team from 2009.
Like Barter while he was Captain, Sibusiso was the overall best player of the season – he walked away with three titles, namely Leading Goal-Scorer, Best Midfielder and Player of the Season. He was awarded with a trophy, soccer boots and R300.
The Best Goal-keeper award was once again taken by Lindokuhle Madonsela, while Vananda took the award for the Best Defender. Former Captain Sandile secured the Players’ Player award, as well as the Best Goal of the Season trophy.
This year’s awards ceremony was blessed with the presence of the Endumeni Mayor Thulani Mahaye. Midas donated a soccer jersey for the team, and two more jerseys were displayed during the event. The team is still in need of support with regards to transport when playing away games, as well as soccer boots and more soccer kits.
