Bujram family hoping for closure after seven years

The murder trial of trade unionist Grishen Bujram has been moved from the Mtubatuba High Court back to the Madadeni High Court, and has been set for August 25 to 29.
“I am still awaiting a response from the Public Protector’s office concerning a complaint that I lodged with them about the accused, Thandeka Nukani, being accommodated by the state,” said Shirley Bujram. Mrs Bujram said Nukani seems to be receiving preferential treatment. She said the accused has stalled this case from the beginning of the trial.

“She has objected to the judge, she changed her legal team about three times, and in subsequent hearings did not arrive at Court, providing instead a host of medical certificates.
“In November 2013 the case was remanded due to the assessor being hospitalised for advanced cancer.
“My argument is, why was he not be replaced? The case was remanded again in March 2014 because he was in hospital.

“Should the accused hand in a sick note at the trial, we the Bujram family, will request that she be seen by a state doctor. If the trial is disrupted by the accused or the assessor not present I will lodge a complaint with the Director of Public Prosecutions,” Mrs Bujram added. In her statement she said the other issue that she has raised is the conspiracy to murder case that was provisionally withdrawn against Miss Nukani. “I will fight for justice until I have achieved the result that I want, even if it means losing my life to do so. My three children and I want justice to be served, and closure,” said an angry Mrs Bujram.
