5SAI troops to remain in DRC despite Ebola outbreak

According to Chief of the army, Lieutenant-General Vusi Masondo, South African soldiers will not be pulled out of the DRC following the  outbreak of Ebola fever. He made the statement at a media briefing last week.

As the Ebola death toll rises across West Africa according to the World Health Organisation SA troops are set to stay put.

Five South African Infantry Battalion (5SAI) has just begun a year long deployment to the DRC. They have replaced 6SAI which saw extensive combat in the region. As 5SAI keeps Ladysmith’s name high on the world stage our thoughts and prayers are with them.
