Hockey fanatic hopes to tour Holland
“My son does exceptionally well at school and deserves to be rewarded for all his hard work. That is why I am going out of my way to help him raise funds to tour with other hockey players from in and around Newcastle.”
Hockey fanatic and Ferrum High School pupil, Siphesihle Luthuli, hopes to be one of the 40 players on a flight to Holland in June/July 2015. During the school holidays next year, hockey players will experience the best Holland has to offer in a 12-day sporting and cultural adventure of a lifetime.
Single parent, Monica Luthuli, has exhausted all options attempting to raise R29 000 to make Siphesihle’s ultimate dream come true. The Grade 8 pupil has been complimented by his teachers for his dedication to his school work and the amount of respect he has for others.

Siphesihle discovered his love of hockey in Grade 2. Besides hockey, he spends his timing being outdoors or playing playstation. The self-proclaimed ladies’ man describes himself as ‘awesome’, causing his brother to cough and burst out laughing in disbelief.
“He is a ladies’ man; he learnt from the best. He isn’t like every other brother. We respect each other and rarely argue,” said a proud brother, also named Siphesihle.
The ambitious teen who turned 14 years old on August 2, wants to study to become a chartered accountant in the near future. “Academically, I am finding my feet and progressing to where I want to be each day. I will continue to work hard in all aspects of my life, whether on the hockey field or in the classroom,” concluded Siphesihle.
Siphesihle had to pay a deposit of R4000 by the end of July to secure a preliminary seat on the Newcastle Holland Hockey Tour. He will have to pay 10 instalments of R2600 to finalise his spot.
