An alleged rapist was beaten to death after the community took the law into their own hands.
The community of Ruthland, Dannhauser assaulted Xolani Dlamini (17) of Allen Farm after he attempted to rape one of the girls in the community. Her screams alerted community members who rushed to her aid and assaulted Xolani. He was rushed to hospital where he later died.
“We do accept that the community can assist by apprehending the suspect. But we condemn that they punish the suspect themselves,” said Const Nyembe, Dannhauser Communications Officer.
A case of murder has now been opened. Eleven suspects have been arrested and eight of them have been charged.
