Triplet tots turn one
“It has been a busy year; having triplets is hard work. Despite the ups and downs throughout the year, we are proud to have three healthy little boys,” said the beaming couple.
Boisterous, babbling giggles echo through the room as Ernest and Jaculine Larkan reflect on a roller coaster year of hardships and elation.

Mrs Larkan went into labour prematurely, giving birth to three tiny babies a year ago on September 4. Tristan, Ethan and Jayden were given a fighting chance despite having to receive blood transfusions and jaundice treatments regularly.
“People are used to having one child; having triplets is normal to us. There simply is no advice we could possibly give,” said the couple with knowing smiles.
Trial and error seems to be the name of the game when it comes to raising three energetic boys. “It is hard work, but we do it together. Ernest helps me out a lot,” said a more serious Mrs Larkan.
Earlier this year, Jayden was diagnosed with double pneumonia. “Doctors told us contracting double pneumonia in the first year after birth was something to look out for. He stopped breathing, his heart stopped beating, he turned blue; we thought we had lost him. Luckily, here he is today,” said the Larkans.
Expecting the worst, the couple was relieved when doctors confirmed there was no permanent damage to Jayden’s brain. “We are grateful his scans are clear,” said a humble Mr Larkan.
The Larkans consider it an honour to be called the mother and father of such handsome boys. “There is never a dull moment in our home; it’s something new every day.”
The couple admits going to the mall is a task on its own. They bought a twin pram instead of a triplet pram, always leaving one of them with a lively tot on the hip.
The Larkans are thankful for making it through the year. Jaculine and Ernest admit the triplets’ first birthday will be an emotional day in the Larkan home as they reminisce on the hardships and joys of raising premature triplets.
